Default The new AI rule seems like a good one.
This rule allows the judges to void a worst of the week tally of votes for one time only per season up through the Final 5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_(season_8)

I still cannot understand how Taylor Hicks one his season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_(season_5) I liked a number of contestants--McPhee, Yamin, Daughtry, Bennett, Pickler-- quite a bit more than him. He did have a massive number of people in his voting bloc though.
