Even after changing filters on a schedule we still have a considerable amount of "dust," especially in our master bedroom, which is the farthest from the heating/cooling system. Our home is 5 years from original build and the first reason we were told about dust was during the construction of our home the drywall applicators would turn on the fan in the A/C to help dry the dry wall mud, which would suck up any construction "dust" laying around. So we had our ducts cleaned, helped somewhat, but the extent we thought it would. My theory is that there is openings in the taped seams of the duct work and what is being sucked up is the "dust" from the blown in insulation, small enough to find its way into the ducts.
Don't know if that could be true, but it never seems to go away.
