There is no shortage of people to sell us something. Some of it is partly true. Some of it is well superstition.
Used to be a TV, television not the villages, ad showing them growing grass on cement. It can be done but it is far easier on proper soil.
I am perhaps a soil hugger. Our soil is sandy clay with a high PH. Most cases the solution is to add organic matter. It takes far more than most people want to believe.
Throwing it down on top of the grass does nothing good but many do it. Organic matter is slighter than sand or clay. There is nothing to bring it into the soil.
