I am perhaps a soil hugger. Our soil is sandy clay with a high PH. Most cases the solution is to add organic matter. It takes far more than most people want to believe.
Throwing it down on top of the grass does nothing good but many do it. Organic matter is slighter than sand or clay. There is nothing to bring it into the soil.

Our lawn guy did the aeration yesterday. Since he owned the attachment no extra cost. Plans to fertilize next week and we will see how well this works.
If not our lawn guy will become our previous one.
So how do you bring the organic matter into the soil other than ripping out your grass and starting over?
