I have custom-made plantation shutters in my home. They are substantially more expensive than blinds but I really like the look and the cleanliness. Like you, I don't like the cords on blinds and they bring back bad memories of the old metal venetians back in the late 50s that cut my hands when my mother made me clean them. The new materials for shutters keep them virtually dust free and a snap to wipe down with a Swiffer. Draperies trap dirt and always seem unsanitary to me.
