Good for them!
I'm strongly pro - 2nd Amendment but there needs to be better policing, such as this example. I don't know how Florida law works but back in Minnesota, particularly in Minneapolis, the powers of the police have been reduced to such an extent that what happened in Ocala could never happen in Minneapolis, even though it should. Random checks have pretty much ceased up there: the police must have reasonable cause for stopping you and just the fact that you may be carrying a gun is not enough cause. Even in known gang neighborhoods, this does not happen.
That's one of the big problems today. We have enough--far too many, actually--laws governing gun ownership. But we're not enforcing them. Not allowing police to make random stops in known heavy gang areas is just one example of this.
