From the way my friend explained it, some just want to just "chip and clip" and don't want to cut you up. Some just want to cut off that bunion before you even remove your socks. One of my friends is a podiatrist and he won't do major surgeries like that beyond basics (removing a nail kind of thing). He doesn't advertise as a Podiatric Surgeon although he is affiliated with a local hospital, just a Podiatrist although I guess he technically can be call one. I definitely wouldn't go to him for "major" foot surgery as that isn't his specialty. He does pretty well just "chipping and clipping" the old folks in his area.
