I agree, if the reset button is operating, you need to replace the heater element, The is a relatively east DIY project. Turn of the power, turn of the water supply to the water heater, and connect a hose to the water heater drain faucet, and drain it. While you are doing this, plan on replacing the expansion tank, as these have a typical life of 5 to 7 years. Get the replacement heater element, take a picture of the existing wiring, and follow the MFG instructions for completing the replacement. Make sure the expansion tank is set to the corrent pressure, at our house this was 70 PSI, they typically come charged to 40 PSI.
