Tar Heels!
Several stories where it came from, but the one I subscribe to is credited to a General during an early battle in the War of Northern Aggression, (to you Yankee folks and my wife, she is from Michigan, it was the Civil War, to us native Southerners there was nothing civil about it!)
There stand those North Carolina boys like they have tar on their heels,,,,
Of course those Duke fans hate to think of them selves as Tar Heels,
so they are probably North Carolinians
