That would completely depend on the "speed" of the USB device and the device it is being played on. I have no problem watching HD Res and even QHD res on a 6 year old laptop with a $30 USB stick or even an iPad. 4K downloads will sometimes stutter. One can also get a USB portable SSD drive for cheap that works just as well and can hold a load of vids.

One can get a pack of 6 USB drives on Amazon for under $50 that will handle just about anything under 4K native res without issue. The only possible issue is getting the movies to put on them. I try and use "one" rather than "you" because "you" aren't the person looking for the flicks.
