Can't recognize a snowbird? Easiest thing in the world. Most folks wear shorts here. Check the legs and arms. Tanned arms + lily-white legs = SNOWBIRD. Not all, of course. But the odds certainly favor that.
These threads in the fall are as predictible as the sun coming up. A small core group of curmudgeons usually need to vent about increased traffic, boneheaded drivers, longer wait times at restaurants, prime-time tee times becoming harder to obtain, etc. etc. All true, of course, at least to an extent. But what some folks don't seem to realize is that the 'birds overwhelmingly are either property owners here in TV themselves, or are renting a home owned by ANOTHER property owner: in BOTH cases that means that the amenity fee for that home is paid for them just as it is for us who enjoy our little slice of heaven here year-round.
In other words, the 'birds aren't taking what is rightfully ours. Not in any way, shape, or form. They are merely claiming what they have every right to claim.
Interesting thing. One of the reasons we decided to buy here, was our experience as renters. Almost to a person the locals were warm and welcoming people, more than happy to engage us in conversation and share what they knew about life in TV. Today when we encounter 'birds we like to engage them in conversation. Admittedly some are a bit circumspect at first (they read the negative comments too, I suppose) but they warm up quickly once they realize we don't hate them or see them as interlopers of one kind or other.
Hopefully others make the same sort of effort. Makes things more pleasant for all of us.
