That's great news that they are at least offering it now! If you have a leak, you'll hear your water running all the time. I didn't have autofill in GA, and hated dragging a hose out twice a week in summer, and then run water until the pool was back to the correct level. It sounds like an easy task, but gets tiring after a short time.
If you're really worried about a leak, it's easy to shut off the autofill overnight, or for a few days, and then turn it back on - certainly easier to fill the pool that way than with a hose. If you have a leak (I've had 3 pool installed over 40 years and never had a leak), you fix it, and then turn autofill back on.
