We reviewed our doorbell camera footage and saw the delivery guy walk up holding the small box, look around behind him, drop the package at the door, and take a picture. Then a minute later he came back empty-handed, turned the box on its side, and took a second picture, which is the one I got. He had a big grin on his face the second time like he couldn't believe how clever he was to figure out such a great scam. He was driving a Hertz truck, which is why we suspect contractor rather than Amazon employee.
Amazon gave us our money back and didn't seem all that surprised. I just hate to think about how many of our neighbors he may have victimized and how many could be suspecting their neighbors of stealing their packages.
