I remember after 911 there was military in the railroad and the subway checking bags randomly. I remember the military actually got a station at the Long Island railroad. I left New York City not because of crime or crowding, but because of the taxes. If I could snowbird, I would.

So true. Most major cities measure city proper where as NYC and Chicago for that matter count a lot of neighborhoods that stretch many miles from the city center. It's definitely not a fair representation. And I won't even mention LA 'region'...
