Many people don't know it, but everyone who has a Google account has a Google drive with 15gb of free storage. This is enough to store thousands of scanned documents. Go to "drive.google.com", login, and click on "my drive". I have every important legal document scanned and stored on my Google drive. That way, it is accessible from any device connected to the Internet. I also have a recipe folder, so I can access any recipe from my smart phone and shop for ingredients while in the grocery store. Way better than an external hard drive.
