On the other hand, other than in bright sun the Fire is very easy to read. I use the tablet for much more than reading ebooks and the Fire supports that while the paperwhite does not. But in this case, perhaps the best or only determining factor is the Fire’s ability to run the app necessary for borrowing Sumter County books.
If I only read books from our library I would get the Fire and feel very happy with my choice. If I also had access to Kindle books and did a lot of reading in the sun then I would buy both even though that would mean carrying two devices (my wife’s preference).

Thanks. I read every night in bed for a while so sunlight won't affect the Fire. That's all I would use it for. I'm just tired of paying Amazon when I can get books for free from the Library. I do believe my tax dollars help pay for the Sumter Library. I take it the 8" would be easier to hold.
