I don't see where Mike.Kathy mentioned lightning rods at all.

Lightning rods do not attract lightning to a house. If lightning hits a lightning rod then it was going to hit that house anyway. The lightning rod provided a safer place for it to hit and probably saved the house.

Lightning rods are not made of asphalt or plastic because asphalt or plastic are not good conductors of electricity. Lightning rods to not attract lightning to a house. Lightning rods provide a safer place for lightning to hit and channel to ground rather than hitting the asphalt shingles and damaging the house.

Metal roofs do not deteriorate like asphalt shingles do. Asphalt shingles do not get dented like metal roofs do. Metal roofs ought to last much longer than shingles. It is a very valid question to ask whether an insurance company treats metal roofs differently than asphalt shingles. It is also a valid question to ask whether the ARC rules for your CDD allows metal roofs.
