I had asphalt shingles on my home here in Atlantic Canada. We live on the Atlantic Coast waterfront and built the home 5 years ago.
The shingles were applied properly and 6 nailed as well as tabbed with cement as we knew how bad the conditions were going to be.
First year we had 3 major blowoffs of multiple shingles.
Properly installed a metal roof over and not one problem since.
During hurricane Fiona that caused massive damage in our area almost everyone in the area had lost shingles.
Our metal roof was untouched.
Shingles will withstand 95-115 mph winds where metal can exceed 200 mph.
