The "outrage" you mentioned is a natural reaction to a raise in price or difficulty in obtaining whatever we want. For many, if not most, as things become more expensive, that means the possibility of having to adjust one's budget and having to forgo things we used to take for granted. We (most of us) can adapt, but we don't like
having to adapt.
