Our house in Atlanta was stick built not block and the air conditioner was right behind the head of the bed in the master. We wre lucky that the wall had no windows. The soution a contractor gave us worked. He said it was the vibration as much as anything that conducted the sound. He left a 1" space and built another wall inside the outside one with foam insulation. This robbed 5" from the room but we never heard the air conditioner again unless the windows on the other wall were open. Hope this helps anyone with the problem.
