Working for a grocery store part-time while a high school student, I was informed that I had to join the union and it was mandatory that I attend a union meeting that was coming up. The meeting was 20 miles away, on a school night and I had to arrange to get a ride there and back. After getting to the meeting, after much hassle, listening to a lot of un-related stuff on the agenda, comes time to vote on the issue that required mandatory attendance, I'm informed that I was not elgible to vote-- not old enough! What a waste of time. Needless to say, subsequent encounters with the unions have not improved my opinion of them.
