We have corner lot with larger back yard and our neighbors behind us planted a row of dense, tall hedges on their property that provide perfect privacy for their lanai and ours. Next time I'm there, I'll ask what type of hedges they are. (The neighborhood is seven years old though, so the hedges have had plenty of time to grow dense and tall.) If you consider a row of hedges, your nursery could provide good advice on what to plant for your purposes.
BTW, thanks for the unintended giggle. I'm referring to your typo about creating a pricey lanai. May I suggest spending big bucks.
