What do others use to shade out the sun & create pricey on their lanai?:wave:

Can you suggest a good place to buy them?

Just saw on the televison this morning that some company that makes them is having a recall because of strangulation hazard. Be careful with the cords if you have them or get them.

I got mine from J.C. Penney.

They can't see us anymore.
 

We have a Camellia so one end are the sliders to our bedroom, and the other end looks at the neighbors so I found some great and very cheap outdoor drapes that are very long and put them up on the other end. We can keep our windows in the bedroom clear and see out and the neighbors don't catch us with our shorts down. The off white canvasy unlined drapes for outdoors came from IKEA. Two pairs did the trick. And they wash well and we have had them for two years and they still look great. AND did I say they were cheap...Look up IKEA's online catalog if you are interested.

P.S. This was just for the end. The big expanse of back is screened with Odells wall.

We have corner lot with larger back yard and our neighbors behind us planted a row of dense, tall hedges on their property that provide perfect privacy for their lanai and ours. Next time I'm there, I'll ask what type of hedges they are. (The neighborhood is seven years old though, so the hedges have had plenty of time to grow dense and tall.) If you consider a row of hedges, your nursery could provide good advice on what to plant for your purposes.

BTW, thanks for the unintended giggle. I'm referring to your typo about creating a pricey lanai. May I suggest spending big bucks. :laugh:

There is an IKEA and a Penney's in Orlando near Millenia Mall about an hour South of TV. We bought some furniture on sale at Penney's in California and had it delivered free to TV.

We bought our outdoor curtains on line from improvementscatalog.com. If you do a search, you can find discount codes for up to 15% off.

Probably either ligustrum (sp?) or viburnum. I have two hedges, one of each. It's a toss up. Viburnum grows faster but ligustrum has a smaller leaf and and looks neater and requires less trimming.

Beware of the 4' height limit for hedges. Check with Architectural Review.

Went to Lowe's several days ago, went back to the blind section, found 8ft. and 4ft. white roll up shades, installed them in several hrs, blocks out the sun and can partially see thru them, covered the entire back side of the Lanai for $68.

We have the ones from Lowes and they are terrific (and cheap). We have them in beige. Not totally room darkening, but block strong rays and semi-transparent.
