I understand your position but I'm a big boy. I know that different things have different prices. I wouldn't expect it any other way.
By asking what someone paid for something, I'm merely trying to get an approximate price range, not lock in a price. If they don't want to share that information, that's certainly their right and I don't have a problem with that at all.
When I hired someone to care for my lawn in TV I asked neighbors who they used and what they paid. Otherwise I would have had no idea what the price range should be. Here in NY I've used lawn services a few times for short periods for health reasons and they are much more expensive here than in TV. That's why I asked those questions.
If someone asks me what I paid for an item or service I'm happy to give them an honest answer. I don't feel compelled to explain myself.
