From what I understand, if bedbugs are brought into a home, they can end up in the sofa and chair cushions, carpeting, and anywhere else they can hide until nighttime. There doesn't have to be a bed available. Then the little draculas come out to feast after dark.
If someone has bedbugs in their home, the eggs attach themselves to the people's clothes, which is placed in luggage when they travel . . . and the bedbugs spread.
