It is similar to a slow jitterbug. I believe it is the state dance of South Carolina. We picked it up when we first moved to Myrtle Beach and love it. You could dance song after song with the shag where you are tired after one jitterbug. The majority of the Myrtle Beach shaggers are 50's and over. However there are quite a younger dancers. There is competitive shagging from teens on up. Come to the shag meeting and check it out.
