In NJ the Home Depot and other exchange depots did not give you a full tank. I'm guessing it's the same here. Blue Rhino and AmeriGas ,which are the most common tank exchangers, each fill their tanks with 15 lbs of propane in the 20 gallon tank when the tanks can be filed with 17 to 18lbs., and usually at a higher cost than the tank refill depots charge for 17 lbs or 18lbs.

I haven't purchased a gas grill as of yet, but when you exchange your tank look for how many pounds of propane you're getting for your money. They post it for legal reasons.
