Never got into The Dead. Or The Who. And when you look back to the beginnign of Rock 'n' roll the man who took it to the next level was Chuck Berry. He doesn't get recognition for being the man. They call Bill Haley the grandfather of rock 'n' roll, but Chuck Berry deserves the title.
