He's not real popular with hard line conservatives who feel he's weak on immigration issues and doesn't want to build the "fence". Also he's approved in state tuition costs for illegal students who reside in Texas.
Some conservatives, like Bachmann and others, accuse him of being lax on personal freedom with his approval of the vaccination of young girls with a controversial vaccine with only an "opt out"; instead of a more defensible "opt in".
The one thing I can point to to make him defend himself, in the eyes of his opponents, is his controversial (but non the less true) characterizations of the present Social Security System.
He's been terribly unprepared to perform in the debate setting and that's hasn't helped him, obviously. He's hurt himself in that venue, for sure.
I just wish someone could explain the hatred I hear against this man. I haven't yet heard an articulate explanation of what's to hate about this man.
