Remember, it has to have been registered with the ATF prior to 1986. You can play around with the sear on an M16 or AR15. It will fire full auto for about 20 rounds before the carrier is destroyed. Take a special carrier, bolt to you civilians, to stand up to the riggers of full auto fire and they are not available in the civilian market.
