I had 2 pamapas grass plants in my garden in London. Ok for first 2 years, then they grew & grew!! I was told be an avid gardener that I should burn them back. BIG mistake.....burned down my hedge as well Oh well. hedge grew back, and so did the pampas.
In the end we (husband) cut back to the ground, then dug them up. The grass part is really sharp, you have to wear long tough sleaves to work near the stuff!!
