Congratulations on your future move to The Villages. I also have an Ohio connection having lived there for four years while attending the University of Cincinnati on a football scholarship. Anytime you are buying a home, regardless of the state, it is advisable to have an attorney review the contract (prior to it being signed), the title work and the closing documents. I would be suprised if a real estate agent were to inform you not to hire an attorney due to the fact that they are in the business of selling and not advising on legal matters and could be exposing themselves to liability if something goes wrong with the transaction. I am sure the paperwork that you will, or may have already, signed will contain language informing you to consult with an attorney prior to purchasing a home in Florida. A home is a large purchase. It is advisable to spend the realitively nominal amount of money necessary to hire an attorney to review your contract, title work and closing documents to ensure that you are knowingly purchasing what you bargained for. I would be happy to spend a few minutes with you on the phone to answer any questions you may have about why it is advisable to have an attorney assist you with your closing. I can be reached at (352) 365-2262.
Thanks,
