I think that the answer is correct, but the "vegan" comment uncalled for. Different societies have different ways of looking at this. If someone is disgusted at the thought of eating dog, that wouldn't make them a vegan. Yet there are societies that consider dog an acceptable meal while we consider dogs as part of our family. I would never eat dog and yet I am not a vegan. Same thing with horses. I would never eat horse meat because I consider them such noble and beautiful animals. But except for the vegan comment the response is correct. The horse meat is not being eaten here, but is being exported to countries where it is perfectly acceptable. And horses, unlike the great apes, dolphins, whales and some other species are not believed to have risen to the level of high intelligence and self awareness that would make eating them disagreeable. Also, in this country of plenty we have the privilege of making the distinction between different types of protein. If your only choice was to watch your child starve to death or to eat horse meat, you would give the horse meat. It is easy to make these distinctions when our food comes in plastic wrapped packages at the supermarket.
