Yes, I am one of those who are laughing. In spite of The Villages stating that they are going to organize medical care around the convenience of the patient, that just will not happen for very normal reasons. What is the more scarce resource; patients or physicians? You normally organize care around the convenience of the more scarce. As many physicians only have their time to sell, they want to make the most efficient use of that scarce resource. Their employers want this as well.
Now having said that, I know of physicians who only work 9-5, five days a week. They do not do “call”, round in Nursing Homes or Hospitals. And they wonder why they are not making any money. Go figure.
