I agree. Although I was more into The Beatles, Doors, Stones and Steppenwolf during The Carpenter's heyday, I took notice to the beautiful voice of Karen Carpenter. Next to Streisand she had the best voice I ever heard. A great loss. It's funny how you mentioned hearing sadness in her voice but in tunes like "Top of The World" you could see her smile without seeing a video.
