One of his former college roommates had been playing Medinah and had a bee fly into his Coke can. He had not noticed it on the Coca-Cola can and picked it up to take a swallow.
Along with the Coke he also drank the bee which stung him in his throat.
Unfortunately, he died at Medinah County Club because his throat swelled up from the bee sting and there were no medics close enough by to save him.

Are you sure that it wasn't a bottle of Coca Cola? I don't think that Coke was available in cans until the 1950s
