Secondly - can anyone give me an aprox. cost to have the darn thing replaced (prior to calling in a professional)? Any info./insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Lot of good info here:
The Average Life of a Garbage Disposal | eHow.com

Home Depot has them from $65 to $200.
Search Results for*garbage disposal*at The Home Depot

Probably $100 to $175 to have someone install one.
I replaced mine after 6 years myself
Biggest thing damaging a disposal...........pouring very hot water in the sink, destroys the seals. Even says that in the owners manual
