I wasn't aware Webb never said that, but a quick looks says he got close with similar lines, but that actual line came from a spoof Stan Frieberg did.

As to Wyatt Earp, I did some research just now and find in the 5 year run of the show they apparently started in Dodge City, then went to Wichita and ended in Tombstone. I didn't remember that. Although I saw what I thought was the pilot when they started airing these recently and it was in Ellsworth Kansas, and he moved to Wichita during that episode. In real life it would have been Wichita first, then Dodge, then Tombstone.

So, you were just as right as I was. It also said that the Longbranch was mentioned once in the series while it was set in Dodge City. (That was a real saloon there, btw.) No mention of Matt Dillon, however. (Can't image why they would. He was fictional AND on CBS, while Wyatt was on ABC.) As I pointed out Matt could have used a local marshal since he was supposed to be a US Marshal and would never be enforcing local laws.
