I have walking poles, or as we used to call them, cross country ski poles; but, the first time I took them out in the neighborhood I had so many ridiculous comments about "the snow is that way up north", and on and on that I never used them again. I used to ski, so I had no problem adapting to them, and you can feel the workout through your arms, shoulders and back muscles. I got mine from a personal trainer friend of mine in Alhambra, he fitted them to me to make sure they were the right length. I have not seen him walking recently, but he used to walk with one of his clients and they both used poles, they walked about 10 miles a day.
