You might be surprised to know how much work goes into maintaining a water tower (and the rest of the system). The outside needs to be cleaned and painted periodically but, more importantly (we drink this stuff) the interior needs serious attention on a regular basis. This is one of those things we take for granted but we shouldn't. This system not only provides our domestic supply for drinking, cooking, and bathing, but it also supplies the water for the fire suppression in the automatic fire systems in the public buildings and the hydrants in our neighborhoods. The fire department tests the hydrants twice a year.
