And now after almost twenty five years of guys using the long putter they decide to take that away from them as opposed to getting control of the golf ball. They used to have an overall distance standard for the ball. When manufacturers made balls that exceeded the standard, they "adjusted" the standard. They also test balls under unrealistic conditions. The putter doesn't affect any of the golf courses but the ball does.
It's great for average players that the ball goes a long way and doesn't curve as much, but it's gotten to the point where a golf course is going to have to be over 8,000 yards in order for a tour event to be held there.
