I sell french doors as a part of my job in millwork.

There is no code that requires the doors to swing out. It is a better seal if they do swing out but you can do either.

The opening probably does NOT have to be modified. If it is a 6' sliding glass door you are replacing, there are numerous replacement french doors available that will fit into that opening. The best one on the market is by Neuma Door. It is more costly but I never have issues with it.

As far as a contractor, I do not know who in the area can install.
