Also, the rates for non-residents to play golf in The Villages are exorbitant, and its almost impossible for a non-resident to get a tee time in the high season. Why would a Stonecrest resident come here and pay $70 to play a round of golf, assuming he/she could even get a tee time, when they get a resident discount to play their own course, ppay $35 or less, and they are assured of a tee time? What you do see happen quite frequently is that Villagers go off campus to enjoy a variety of courses and/or play with friends who are not residents. There are a number of men's and ladies groups that do this on a regular basis.

I think you lost sight of your question which I answered, "why would anyone at Stonecrest come to The Villages to golf. This was not about what The Villagers pay to golf...
If a Stonecrester could drive their regular golf cart into The Villages to golf they could: drive right out of their garage with the clubs on the cart without loading and unloading their equipment twice from the car; they could stay local and save much in time and gas costs; they would have a variety of courses, (and tee times are not as difficult to obtain as everyone would have you believe, this is particularly true if they have a friend or group they play with that lives in The Villages and they play the championship courses); the golfers also have a wide variety of restaurants and clubs at which they can grab lunch and tip a beverage with their friends after their round of golf. As far as fees go, summer rates are almost half of the winter rates and are a terrific deal. It is my understanding that a good number of Stonecresters are fulltimers.
These are some reasons Stonecresters may be interested in golfing in The Villages. What you determine to be outrageous prices can be quite a deal with all of the above taken into consideration. The fees charged for golf are nothing to some people who, in their previous lives, belonged to a country club. You may also want to consider that many golfers like a variety of challenges on different courses, not the same ole, same ole.
Note: Anyone else wish this thread would dry up and go away?
