Why do adults act like teenagers when they encounter a celebrity, especially actors? After all an actor is nothing more than a media product.
We lived in North Andover, MA, for many years, just a mile from Red Sox great Jim Rice. Our son played little league baseball with Jim's son, and if Jim was able to make a game (he was still playing then), he had to stand way out by the left field fence to watch so people wouldn't always bother him. He had very few opportunities to see his son play, and just wanted to enjoy it when he could. A few years later, Jim had retired and his daughter was playing in little league. She was a fabulous athlete, as was his son, and both were very nice kids when we knew them. At that pint, Jim was able to do everything a "normal" parent would do. He took his turn selling hot dogs in the hut, the whole bit. He still very nicely declined any requests for autographs or photos ops, though, explaining that little league was about the kids, not the parents (something too many parents seemed to not understand!). He was a very nice, sincere man.
