The pain I have now comes and goes some I'm thinking it is arthritis. How do they diagnose bursitis???

The Dr. started out with an X-ray and then an examination. He pushed with his thumb into the side of my hip. It was pretty obvious that it hurt. About ten minutes later he put an anti-inflammatory injection directly into the bursa. My understanding is that several tendons are attached at the bursa.
