Above link leads to a humongous long long wiki article on Vermont (if you keep scrolling down). Huge volume of info.

Fortunately, Vermont & our town in particular was the quintessential New England small town in which we chose to raise our family from 1970 until they flew the coop before 1990. Vermont retained its innocence & small town flavor; still does.

Most people do not commute more than a few minutes to work. Less stress that way. Relaxed lifestyle. Neighbors who know entire generations upon generations of family.

The "drug problem", which our drug task force seems to have under control, thanks to a young enthusiastic sheriff who wants his two little boys to grow up in the same safe atmosphere he grew up in............was a shocker to all of us.

These drug dealers come up from THE BIG OUT OF STATE METRO CITIES......targeting the locals, get them HOOKED.....thus they then have to SELL in order to support their own habit.......which is very addictive. Cocaine & Heroin.

THEY'VE ROUNDED THEM ALL UP IN BIG DRUG BUSTS........WEARING S.W.A.T. TEAM GEAR......SCARY TO SEE....WITH HELICOPTERS FLYING OVERHEAD........

Our Governor making the speech "spread the word" & it got national attention. They take pics of the culprits being handcuffed & taken to jail, booked the same day....

This is not something that is unique only to Vermont in the present climate of drugs in America.........

HOWEVER, because Vermont is a small, low population state, known for it's bucolic serenity, beautiful natural scenery & excellent quality of life..........it got massive media attention...........but we are glad they rounded up the KING PINS, which I am not allowed to DESCRIBE HERE.........but they are NOT native VERMONTERS, believe me. They wear the gang colors of ex cons from big city prisons.........they saw Vermont as a soft target to peddle their goods........getting the 20 to 30 something aimless youth addicted.

Believe me, when I say that Vermont has more health conscious youth than druggies. More upstanding WHOLESOME youth than the druggies.

These "city guys" come up, find a gal pal.....move into her apartment......& peddle their stuff.....but our police are doing a great job of scaring them off........& arresting them.

But, since you & many others seem to have bought into the drug problem issues of our state, the damage has surely been done as far as our pristine reputation of years gone by.

We always felt safe, leaving our doors & cars unlocked........now we lock our doors...........but then, we are older & wiser.......knowing that anyone can drive up here to peddle their drugs..............another huge problem in all states is the abuse of pharmaceutical prescription drugs........

Not to be defensive, but truthfully, we are safer than most other states I can think of. This is why we have chosen to stay put.

Addiction is a terrible thing.......I agree. Most kids raised in loving families will know NOT TO START taking drugs.........and to avoid bad companions.
