Well...yes and no. And this is what I think is the crux of the problem with these companies. There is almost zero competition at the consumer level. If you have cable, you are generally limited to one cable company. These companies lobby municipalities in order to get the exclusive right to cover a municipality. If you don't like what you have, you do have the right to switch to a satellite dish, but often not another cable company. Here in Lady Lake, we can get Comcast. Verizon and Brighthouse are not available here. I do not want to go to a dish. I have heard too many negatives about them so I'd prefer to stick with cable. If I want cable, I have no other choice.
It would be like you want to buy a four door sedan but you only have the Toyota Camry available in your area. If you want another choice it is a two door pick up truck.
If we had true competition at the consumer level, these companies would have to be more responsive to their customers. I think that the satellite dish companies tend to be better with customer service and pricing because they do have to compete for customers.
