Villager arrested in road rage shooting

Millard K. Ives | Staff Writer

A 67-year-old Villages motorcyclist was arrested Thursday after he allegedly blocked in a vehicle with help of a fellow motorcyclist and then fired shots into the car during a road rage incident, according to Lady Lake police.

John Augustine Bibas, whose mugshot show tattoos of a sword with a bloody tip and a skeleton holding an axe, was charged with shooting into or throwing deadly missiles. He was released from the Lake County jail after posting a $10,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, Bibas and another motorcycle were traveling being the car headed east on County Road 466 in Lady Lake. The driver told police that Bibas kept tailgating him while trying to pass.

At some point, the motorcyclist rode on the center divider and cut between the victim’s car and another vehicle and then passed him as the other motorcycle stayed behind.

The report adds that Bibas then suddenly put on his brakes in front of the car, causing it also to stop. Then the other motorcyclist then allegedly pulled up behind the car, which prevented the victim from backing up.

The victim told police he began to honk -- only for Bilas to pull out a gun and shoot the car.

The victim added he was able to turn his wheel hard and drive off and to the Recreation Plantation RV Resort where he called police.

Police said they spotted what appeared to be two bullet holes in the car and officers later found Bilas on Lake Ella Road and arrested him.

What a sweet couple the 2 motorcyclists make. The guy should not have been released on bond. He has proven himself to be am immediate danger to the community.

I'e ridden bikes with many guys and gals in the past. Thankfully none have risen to the level of idiocy that Mr Bibas displayed.
