If you ever watch a flock of Kanada geese feeding, you'll notice that one always has his head up looking around while all the others have their heads down eating grass. The lookout will put his head down to feed and another one pops up to be the lookout. It is amazing to watch. I always wonder how they know whose turn it is to be the lookout. I'm not sure that that's the case with these birds, but it made me think of that.
