Did you administer flea and or tick med recently,or had she had shots recently? One of my past dogs had a seizure like reaction to frontline plus once I bathed it off him he was fine. I've also heard of other dogs, having reactions to shots ie rabies etc even a few days afterwards. My current dog had a seizure like reaction around a year ago. The vet said could have been inner ear infection or tumor. We put her on ear meds and she has been ok since. I also have her and my other old boy on canna companion for hip spine and acl issues for the past 3 weeks. It has been reported to be good for seizure dogs and dogs w cancer and end of life care. Yes it is cannabis without the loopy stuff in it ��

Go to the vet. My CAT was "fainting" which led to heart problem--then she now may have cancer but due to heart problem can't operate. However she did have a SEIZURE-recently -I described it to vet and next time I am to get her to vet quickly. I also did some research on Internet--Internet said sometimes different food makes a difference -- but better to have vet aware of the problem.I read up on both dogs and cats. She is not on seizure meds--just heart meds and special prescription food. When I ran out of prescription food once and she ate other food--she started"fainting" again.

Fda is trying to class it as a drug and like any supplement requires that they cannot make certain statements ..... earth pets in gainesville, fl started selling it from their store and fda had them remove it but i believe it is back on the shelves once proven that thc was not in the product. My dogs are only into their 3rd week so the jury is still out on it.

downsouth: I asked the vet a while back if I could get our dog on medical marijuana. She said not in Florida. I would so prefer to get him off the pheno and potassium bromide because it isn't great for the liver and he has such thirst he drinks all the time ergo pees all the time. I have to take him out at least twice a night. He just can't make it. It is exhausting. So if this cannaforpets works, I would really like to know so I could just wean him from drugs. Please post your findings. I am so excited!

We had an Irish Setter many years ago that would often have gran mal seizures. She was on multiple drugs (dilantin, pheno, and other seizure meds) with no change, so we took her off them. Her seizures lasted about 12 minutes, yes, very long and very intense. We would put her head in our lap so she wouldn't bang it on the floor and talk softly to her. We knew she could tell we were there. After she came out of the seizures, she would be spent for the rest of the day. No vet could find any reason for them and only one vet actually saw a seizure since she would be out of them by the time we could get her to one. Interestingly, one vet told us to put pancake syrup or karo syrup on her gums while she was seizuring. That made a huge difference. She would come out of them a little sooner and she wasn't as exhausted. He said that the body uses up a lot of glucose when it seizes so long and the syrup helped to put sugar back into the muscles quickly. I don't know if that is true, but it did make a difference for her. It was just a way of life for us and her. It's hard to watch, but you do what you have to for them.

Do any of you know what would bring on your dog's seizure?

Our Lab had seizures. Started when she was about two years old. The first one was terrifying for us and her. She actually knew when they were coming on, she would stagger (like a drunk) to one of us and collapse onto our legs and lay there until it passed. Her eyes would roll back into her head and sometimes she would fight to sit upright. We would talk her through it and stroke her body all the time. When she came out of it she would be knocked out and exhausted and would sleep for a while and then be fine. She lived to be 14 yrs old. The vet said she was not hard wired correctly!

That's basically the description of what our dog goes through on his seizures. He will rest a while like he's trying to figure out what just happened and then he gets up and go about his business. Our dog will start to come to us as well when he starts feeling it.

What brings on your dog's seizures?

YES, YES - just went through this with our Sheltie. Scared the heck out of me. Took her to the vet immediately and he said it is common for dogs to have these seizures and they just don't know why. Ran tests and could find no reason for the seizure. That was about a month ago and she has been fine ever since. Seems to happen in older dogs. My girlfriend's boxer has them all the time, especially when he has been out in the heat. Of course the tests cost a fortune but at least it didn't happen again. I wouldn't worry too much.

Other than being sore the next day from beating yourself up. you're mind is basically disconnected from your body. I've never had any memory of them.
From my experience I would say it's harder for you to witness.

My dog had seizures since we moved here. We took him to the vet here in the village sand she said there are a lot of chemicals in the grasses here and that could be the culprits. He was also getting a lot of hot spots since being here,he was 13 .He was also on phenobarbital but the side effects were worse than the seizures. My dog is no longer here because his seizures were getting more and more frequente he also had a bad hip which he could no longer get up. Phenobarbital is bad for animals.
